CLINTON, SOUTH CAROLINA - AUG 30, Day 8, 108 miles : Dave Mullens of the Major Taylor Cycling Club of New Jersey takes a break after leaving Clinton, South Carolina on August 30, 2017.
Mullens “Worst moments for me include getting chased by dogs, my mechanical breakdown, my unbelievably sore ass, the morning we rode over a couple miles of rough road that was being prepared for paving.
My favorite moments include the many meals we had together, the fish and chicken from the pastor and his friend from the restaurant.. I really enjoyed cycling through the cities, Philadelphia, Baltimore, DC. Riding around the stadiums in Philly.
The top moments were getting kicked off Interstate 70. Riding hard in the dark. Riding with you and taking the lane on rt 49 heading into South Carolina. Earlier that day we were a little lost near the Panthers Stadium. And although according to John Sowell the other group was not lost we ended up way ahead of them. The Welcome from MACC was amazing. Dont forget
Bordeaux Butt Paste.
That is why we fell behind coming out the plaza just past UNC charlotte and the flat tire put us way behind but that did not bother me at all.
The Lowest my spirits fell was probably when it first started really pouring the last morning. That was tough and I was feeling pretty beat up that day even if it wasn't raining.
Ok we’re almost there. We said good by to South Carolina and our gracious host Byron who sent us some good fried chicken and fish after suffering from mostly fast food from the past 7 days.
The group of eight cyclist plus one SAG support averaged 100 miles day and nearly 25,000 feet of climbing before their final destination. (Photo by Brian Branch Price)
